Book Review: White Silence by Jodi Taylor

"that’s the great advantage of losing everything. There’s nothing left to lose.”

--Jodi Taylor, White Silence

The first book in international bestseller author Jodi Taylor's riveting supernatural thriller series. White Silence is a suspenseful supernatural thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Synopsis from Goodreads...

Elizabeth Cage is a child when she discovers that there are things in this world that only she can see. But she doesn’t want to see them and she definitely doesn’t want them to see her.

What is a curse to Elizabeth is a gift to others – a very valuable gift they want to control.

When her husband dies, Elizabeth’s world descends into a nightmare. But as she tries to piece her life back together, she discovers that not everything is as it seems.

Alone in a strange and frightening world, she’s a vulnerable target to forces beyond her control. And she knows that she can’t trust anyone…

My reaction to the novel...

This novel had me hooked from beginning to end. I assumed that this book would be like any other that I had grown weary of in the middle. While reading this story, I was on the edge of my seat. One of the scenarios actually terrified me. I try my hardest to stop reading and visualizing, but I can't help it. It's difficult to put the book down. Stopping hurts. Consequently, it is better to be startled when reading than to halt and reflect. This book's language is also straightforward to read; there are no ornate, pompous phrases. As a result, I absolutely liked reading it.

Although I was unfamiliar with the author, I found her writing to be rather impressive. I'd want to read the second book in this series, but I can't locate it anyplace online. Despite the fact that I read this book on my iBooks, I still want to read more books in this genre in paperback.

This book is chock-full of surprises. Furthermore, Cage and Jones made me delighted. They made such a great duo. Even though I got lost in a scene, I managed to finish the story. I'm still looking forward to reading more of Jodi Taylor's work. It was really enjoyable.

My Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

"It can’t be easy to discover that the person you once loved, the person whom you trusted most in the world, means you harm.”

If someone you liked and trusted betrays you, it is undoubtedly surprising. It is extremely terrible, especially if you learn that they just came into your life to fulfill a demand they had towards you. You could have trusted them and even fallen in love with them, but in the end, they did what they had to do to fulfill their needs by taking what they needed from you and leaving you with nothing but a broken heart.

"once something has been said, it can never be unsaid. You can’t unsay something any more than you can unhear it, either.”

For me, it always happens in real life. We can't go back and change what we've said. Therefore, in my opinion, it is always advisable to keep composure, even when we are angry or agitated, as words spoken cannot be taken back once they have been said.

"I think there comes a place beyond terror. When things are so bad that human emotions simply aren’t strong enough to express them”

I've had moments of extreme fear where I was powerless to act. I had the same level of dread as Cage while reading this story. Even though it had nothing to do with this narrative, I can still remember being frightened and feeling powerless as a kid.
