Let's discuss why books are so captivating, how to rediscover the love of reading, and why one page is perfectly OK to begin with.
The Reason We Quit Reading (And Why It's Not Your Fault)
Let's face it, life gets busy. Reading frequently falls to the bottom of the priority list, whether it's due to job, school, parenthood, social media, or simply getting through the day's stress. "I just don't have time to read," some people claim, but really? Although we don't always know how to safeguard it, we do have time.
The good news is that rekindling your interest in reading doesn't require three peaceful hours and a cup of tea at a cabin in the woods. It will just take a few minutes. A few of pages. A little spark. And you're back once you sense that spark once more.
Books Are Best Friends, Therapists, and Time Machines
Paper and ink are not all that books are. They are gateways. They transport you to other realms, various perspectives, and even different areas of your own heart.
🌸Reading a memoir might help you feel understood while you're going through a difficult time.
Did you know that reading on a daily basis actually improves sleep, fosters empathy, and lowers stress? Indeed, it's preferable to scrolling at midnight!
How to Rediscover Your Passion for Reading
Try these suggestions if you're prepared to resume reading but are unsure where to begin:
1. Instead of reading what you "should" read, read what you truly enjoy.
Just because it's popular doesn't mean you have to start with a bestseller or classic. Even whether it's a graphic novel, a young adult romance, or a celebrity memoir, read what interests you.
2. Make it a custom rather than a chore.
Light a candle. Get a snack. Wrap yourself under a blanket. Make reading a feeling rather than a chore.
3. Consider anthologies or short books.
Are you feeling overburdened? Start with essays or short tales. A single chapter might be rather fulfilling.
4. Buy used or borrow
Books don't have to cost a fortune. Look into your town library, Facebook book bazaars, or nearby bookstores. You could be surprised by that old dusty book on your shelf.
5. Create a TBR List or Reading Journal.
Make reading enjoyable! Keep track of the books you've read, give them ratings, or use book quotations to adorn a lovely diary. It's an enjoyable approach to maintain motivation.
Reading doesn't have to be flawless or beautiful. I occasionally spend ten minutes reading before bed. On other days, I drink iced coffee and read a hundred pages at once. While waiting in line, I use my phone to read eBooks. I underline phrases that strike a chord with me. I lend books to friends. I dog-ear pages, so don't come at me, perfectionists.
It has nothing to do with reading quantity. It all comes down to how much it returns to you.
You are a reader regardless of how many books you read in a year or each week. It doesn't matter if your book is on your phone, on a shelf, or from a secondhand store. It's your adventure, whether you underline quotes or simply go straight to the conclusion.
Perhaps now is the time for you to take up a book again. Just one page. Just a single moment of stillness. And you never know, it may transform your life once more.
